We believe truth matters. What a church believes shapes everything — how it worships, how it cares for people, how it reads Scripture, and how it understands the world. Below is a summary of the core convictions that anchor everything we do at Walnut Creek Baptist Church.
We believe the Bible is the inspired, inerrant Word of God — without error in its original writings and the final authority on all matters of faith and life. It is not merely a human book about God; it is God speaking to us. We take it seriously, study it carefully, and seek to live by it completely.
2 Timothy 3:16–17 · 2 Peter 1:21 · John 17:17We believe in one God who exists eternally in three co-equal, co-eternal persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Each is fully and truly God, yet there is only one God.
The Father is a personal, all-knowing, all-powerful, ever-present God who is perfect in holiness, wisdom, and love. He created all things, rules over all things, and is intimately involved in the lives of His people. He hears and answers prayer and will one day judge all people in righteousness.
Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He is fully God and fully man. He lived a sinless life, died in our place for our sins, and rose bodily from the dead. He ascended to the Father's right hand as our Great High Priest and is coming again — visibly, personally, and physically — to judge the world and reign as King of kings.
The Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin, draws people to Jesus, and lives within every believer at the moment of salvation. He is our ever-abiding teacher, helper, and guide — empowering us to live the Christian life and conforming us to the image of Christ.
We believe God created human beings in His own image — with inherent dignity, worth, and purpose. Every human life, from conception to natural death, is sacred and of immeasurable value.
We believe humanity fell into sin. Adam and Eve's rebellion brought spiritual, relational, and physical death to themselves and every person who came after them. All of us are born with a sinful nature — inclined toward self and away from God — and are unable to save ourselves or earn God's favor.
We believe God created humanity as male and female — equal in dignity and value, distinctly different in design. We believe marriage, as God ordained it, is the lifelong covenant union of one man and one woman.
Genesis 1:26–27 · Romans 6:23 · Ephesians 2:1–3 · Genesis 2:18 · Matthew 19:4–9We believe salvation is entirely the gift of God — not something we earn, achieve, or deserve. We are saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Jesus Christ alone. His death on the cross paid the full penalty for our sin. His resurrection secured our justification before God. When we repent and place our trust in Him, we are forgiven, declared righteous, and adopted into the family of God.
We believe that all true believers, once saved, are kept secure in Christ forever. Nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus.
Ephesians 2:8–10 · Romans 10:9–10 · John 10:27–30 · Romans 8:38–39We believe the Church is the community of all who have trusted in Jesus Christ — united by faith, committed to His Word, and sent into the world with His gospel. The local church gathers for worship, grows in community, and goes out in mission. It is not a building or an institution. It is a family of people who belong to Jesus and to one another.
Matthew 16:18–19 · Acts 2:41–47 · Ephesians 1:22–23We believe Jesus established two ordinances to be observed by His church until His return.
Baptism is a public declaration of faith — the outward expression of an inward transformation. We practice believer's baptism by immersion, following Jesus' own example and the pattern of the New Testament. Baptism does not save; it publicly identifies a believer with the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ.
The Lord's Supper is a regular act of worship in which we remember Christ's sacrificial death, proclaim our faith in His resurrection, and anticipate His return. Every follower of Jesus is invited to participate, doing so in a spirit of gratitude, worship, and honest self-examination.
We believe every person will spend eternity somewhere. Those who die apart from Christ enter immediately into a conscious, real, and eternal separation from God — what Scripture calls Hell. Those who die in Christ enter immediately into the presence of God — a real and eternal dwelling place of joy and righteousness that Scripture calls Heaven.
We believe in the bodily resurrection of all people — the redeemed to everlasting life in glorified bodies in the presence of the Lord, and the lost to everlasting judgment. Both Heaven and Hell are literal, everlasting destinations.
John 5:28–29 · 2 Corinthians 5:8 · Revelation 20:11–15We believe Jesus Christ will return to earth — personally, visibly, and physically. He will reign over the nations, establish His kingdom, and make all things new. This hope is not a wish. It is a promise.
Philippians 3:20 · Matthew 24:30 · Revelation 19:11–21This summary reflects the core of what we believe at Walnut Creek Baptist Church. The Bible itself — inspired, infallible, and authoritative — is our ultimate and final authority on all matters of truth, morality, and life.
